Point Builders is an industry leader in the pre-engineered building arena. Point Builders is Varco-Pruden Buildings' largest volume metal building contractor in their ten-state North Central Region. On average Point Builders' has placed in the top 100 for the largest volume metal building contractor in the United States since 1995. We are the largest pre-engineered builder head-quartered in the state of Iowa.

What is pre-engineered? The one main difference between pre-engineered steel construction and conventional steel construction is the structural engineer. By utilzing specially designed software, we are able to enter your building dimensions and design the steel frame needed for your facility. Conventional steel construction requires a structural engineer to design the steel frame at additional costs to the owner. Our software replaces the need for a structural engineer at a substantial time and money savings for you, the owner. The standarized steel parts designed through the customized pre-engineering software are also more economical - an additional cost savings to our customers.

A benefit of pre-engineered vs. wood frame is the ability for pre-engineered to provide wide open spaces. Pre-engineered frames allow for the span of the building to be designed with fewer columns in the interior work or storage space. It is ideal for clear spans from 30 to 300 or more feet with no interior support columns necessary. Wide open spaces allow for better utiliziation of the space which in turn can increase productivity and workflow.

Overall, pre-engineered is the fastest and most cost-effective way to construt low-rise buildings of any size. It is recognized for its limitless flexibility on interior and exterior materials, and for its advanced methods of engineering. Exterior finishes can be metal, block, tilt-up, or wood.

MCN ranks builders according to tonnage of steel purchased for metal building projects each year. Point Builders has ranked in the top 100 builders nationally 10 of the 11 previous years. New in 2004, MCN began a ranking category based on the square footage of projects completed for the previous year. In the first year of this category, Point Builders ranked 20th.
